Welcome to the Nest: A Love Letter to the Crow‑Brained

I woke up this morning thinking about all the things I intended to accomplish on my days off. The plan was beautifully simple: make shepherd’s pie soup and organize my office. Two tasks. Manageable. Adult-like.

Naturally, the first thing I did was order groceries from bed. All I needed was some meat… but then I remembered I needed ingredients for Ninja Creami ice cream. And snacks. And popcorn seasoning. And, obviously, a candle, because how else am I supposed to function as a human being. So I placed the order before my feet even touched the floor.

At this point, the plan had evolved into: make shepherd’s pie soup, make ice cream, organize my office, eat snacks, and burn a candle like a chaotic domestic forest sprite.

I got dressed, let the dog out, made breakfast, and washed a couple dishes before WonderMutt started banging on the door like he pays rent. I let him in, checked the freezer to make sure I had everything for the soup (excellent timing, ten out of ten), and realized the cats needed food. I filled their bowl and added cat food to the next grocery list because apparently I run a small petting zoo now.

While brushing my teeth, I realized I needed a bigger AM/PM pill organizer — because that’s just the stage of life we’re in — so I sat down and added that to my next grocery cart. Then I checked my email. Then Facebook. Then I saw someone in the “People You May Know” section who I haven’t seen since high school. One click led to another, and by the time I reached their sister’s husband’s brother’s page, I found a picture of a very fancy chicken… and fell directly into an internet rabbit hole.

It is now 8 p.m.

Shepherd’s pie soup is not made.

My office is not organized.

Dishes are not washed.

Ice cream is not made.

But I do know that Silkie chickens are a Chinese breed with black skin, black bones, and blue earlobes. So, you know. Productivity.

If any of that feels painfully familiar, you belong here. Truly. I’m glad you found the Nest.

I built Crow Nests & Side Quests for the beautifully nonlinear — the distracted adventurers, the midlife magic‑makers, the sensory‑sensitive gremlins, and the humans who are doing their best while their brain and hormones are doing parkour off of each other in the background.

This nest is for you if:

  • your brain flips between hyperfocus and “wait… why did I come in here?”
  • you constantly question the new weird things your body is doing and your brain responds in full interpretive dance
  • your to‑do list spawns side quests like it’s sentient
  • your energy levels are powered by vibes, caffeine, and occasional “what am I forgetting” adrenaline spikes
  • your executive function is a cryptid sighting — rare, blurry, and gone before anyone else sees it
  • your emotions can be set off by a dog in boots or a crunchy taco in the wrong hands (or mouth)

Here, we don’t pretend to have it all together.
We don’t chase perfection.
We don’t shame the chaos.

Instead, we embrace this beautiful mess.

In this nest, you’ll find:

  • feral midlife survival tips for navigating hormones, hot flashes, and body plot twists
  • chaotic kitchen alchemy for low‑spoon days and sensory overload moments
  • fuel‑the‑quest meals for when your brain is buffering
  • crow‑brain chronicles full of ADHD shenanigans and nonlinear living
  • hyperfixation station detours into whatever shiny thing has captured my soul this week
  • small wins and big magic to celebrate the tiny triumphs that keep us going

This space exists because life is messy, magical, overwhelming, hilarious, exhausting, and still worth showing up for — especially when we show up together.

So welcome to the nest, friend.
You don’t have to be organized.
You don’t have to be consistent.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.

You just have to be human — gloriously, chaotically, beautifully human.

Settle in.
You’re home now.
